Home is where the heart is, yet as so many of us who love a good meal know, the quickest way to the heart can be through the stomach—or taste buds. Our culinary services team is dedicated to nourishing our residents, body and soul, with tasty, heart-healthy meals.
To celebrate, we’re hosting a special “Caring is a Work of Heart” culinary event, and invite you to join us for a delicious meal and to learn about the benefits our residents receive from our nutritional strategy. Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 4th, from 10:00 - 11:30am when Chef Bernice Erwin offers you the chance to experience the great flavor and warm feeling of a delicious meal with our culinary team.
Bernice Erwin has been the Culinary Director at ViewPointe for the last 11 years. She brings with her a lifetime of experience in the culinary world. Upon graduation from high school in her native Wales, she entered a catering college to complete her Culinary Arts Degree. All of Bernice’s professional experiences have been within the food and hospitality industry, specializing in senior communities in the Colorado Springs area since 1988.
Bernice and her team are an integral part of the overall health of our residents. She hosts monthly menu-planning meetings where residents are invited to participate in the upcoming menu decisions. At these meetings, the residents discuss specific preferences or dietary restrictions, such as low-sodium or low-fat needs, so that Bernice can design healthy options for their specific needs.
Recently, a resident who had been struggling with significant knee pain sat down and discussed the doctor’s suggestion of weight loss to alleviate the pain with Bernice. Through their collaboration and a healthy planned diet in place, the resident successfully lost 24 pounds. Not only was the doctor extremely happy, but the resident now deals with significantly less knee pain.
