What is the difference between a for-profit and a not-for-profit senior living company? When it comes to managing the day to day operations of the communities we serve, the answer is… nothing. In fact, being a not-for-profit makes it even easier for us to invest in the people living at each Bethesda community. As a not-for-profit company, we have more freedom than many for-profit organizations. We don’t answer to investors and we’re not tied down by the financial obligations of a publicly traded corporation or Real Estate Investment Trust. At Bethesda Senior Living Communities, we’re obligated by our mission to serve everyone within our communities with humble, willing spirits.
Our communities aren’t islands, and we know that the neighborhoods and towns surrounding them are often important to the staff and residents inside. Which is why we’re so happy to be able to support those communities via grants to local agencies. Our Community Grants go to support a variety of programs that assist older adults, children and others within the area.
So, what do we do with this freedom? First and foremost, we care for every member of our communities with respect, professionalism and warmth. We invest in high-quality environments, technology to keep everyone safe and programs to ensure residents are able to live the active, independent lifestyles they choose. As a faith-based organization, our mission is one of service, which means we are dedicated to the physical, emotional and spiritual health of our residents. Service also means investing in our communities through a greater mission. Since our organization’s founding in 1959, we have been serving our world by loving, giving and doing. For more detailed information about our philanthropy this past year, please view our Social Accountability Report.
A sister organization of Bethesda Senior Living Communities One Child is a child sponsorship organization helping to meet the physical and spiritual needs of children in poverty-stricken areas around the world. Through its ministry programs, children receive food, education, medical aid and hope in Jesus Christ. By giving a donation, you can join One Child in providing holistic care and assistance to over 40 thousand children internationally. To learn more or make a donation, visit onechild.org.
Since 1959, Bethesda Ministries has been sharing God’s love with the world through a variety of outreach programs: children’s centers and orphanages, meals for the hungry, buildings for ministry, Christian radio and more. These programs make a difference for tomorrow’s world—a difference our children and grandchildren will see and feel. To learn more about our ministry, Business for Benevolence, visit ba.org.
